September 27, 1908 – June 15, 2010Lloyd Marion Russell, 101, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born September 27, 1908, in Carterville, Illinois, and was the son of the late Thomas A. and Jennie Latta Russell. He was a graduate of Piggott High School and attended Southern Illinois University.  He ultimately graduated from Embalming School in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Parrish Ellis on November 14, 1933, and to this union two daughters were born.  After marrying Hazel, they together established Russell Mortuary in Piggott, Arkansas.
Lloyd also served the community well by holding position as an officer in the Arkansas State Burial Associating and the Arkansas Funeral Directors Association for many years.  He also helped organize the first Chamber of Commerce in Piggott and the Piggott Lions Club and was a charter member of the Sugar Creek Country Club.   He has since been recognized as on of Piggott’s “Men of Vision” by a marble monument in the Town Square. Lloyd was a member and served as an Elder for many years of the Church of Christ. He also was an avid sportsman and cattleman.  Lloyd and Hazel loved to travel.  Together with others, they traveled the United States frequently.
After more than 60 years of marriage, his wife, Hazel Parrish Russell, preceded him in death on January 7, 1994.  He was also preceded in death by parents, Thomas A. and Jennie Russell; two sisters:   Dorothy Heidbreder and Emma Lou Morgan; and two brothers:  Leslie Russell and Dr. Ivan Lee Russell. Survivors include his daughters, Betty Russell of Piggott, Arkansas, and Marian Nabors and husband Dr. Tom Nabors, Sr. of Nashville, Tennessee; three grandchildren:  Dr. Tommy Nabors and wife Lesley of Nashville, Tennessee, Anne Phelps and husband Greg of Nashville, Tennessee, and Russell Nabors of Nashville, Tennessee; five great grandchildren:  Wright Nabors, Brett Nabors, Sophie Nabors, Ralston Phelps, and Reid Phelps; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 18, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Jerry Morgan officiating.  Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Dr. Tom Nabors, Sr., Dr. Tommy Nabors, Russell Nabors, Greg Phelps, Don Roeder, and Joe Tate. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
