May 3, 1955 – May 15, 2007Jimmy Lee Rhodes, Sr., well-known August resident, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at the age of 52.
Jimmy was born May 3, 1955 in Sentinel, Oklahoma, the son of James Lee and Carolyn Sue Hale Rhodes. He was a 1973 graduate of Laura Connor High School in Augusta and a 1985 graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. A longtime and second generation funeral director and embalmer, Jimmy owned and operated Rhodes and Son Funeral Home in Augusta and McCrory. He also served as the Woodruff County Coroner, being elected to that position in 1997. He had served as a deputy coroner under his father from 1975 until 1996.
He was married December 8, 1979 to the former Cindy Nichols. Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting the bull with his buddies. He was known for his many jokes and his dog, Oreo and mule, Jack. If you knew him well enough, you knew that Jim was never without a chew of tobacco. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee Rhodes and Carolyn Sue Rhodes.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Cindy of the home; his children, Angela and Jimmy Rhodes, Jr. both of Augusta; his sister, Pam Robertson and her husband, Cleatious of Searcy.
Funeral services will be conducted 11am Friday at Rhodes and Son Funeral Home in Augusta with interment in Augusta Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 until 8.
