Gerald Wayne Hoggard

Gerald Wayne Hoggard, 81, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away September 14, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born on June 15, 1932, in Cardwell, Missouri, and was the son of the late William Hoggard and Grace Richardson Hoggard Tyner.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Sue Wayland on December 5, 1953, and to this union two sons were born.

Gerald was a United States Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member and Past Master of the Piggott Masonic Lodge #545 and Deputy Grand Master of the Arkansas Grand Lodge. Gerald was honored as a 33rd degree Mason through the Scottish Rite Bodies. In December 1971, Gerald founded Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas, where he served as owner, embalmer, and funeral director over 40 years. He also served as Clay County Coroner for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents: his son, Sherrell Wayland Hoggard; brother, Billy Wayne Hoggard; and sister, Glenda Sue Goundry.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Shirley Sue Hoggard; son, Paul Wayne Hoggard and wife Kathy of Piggott, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Pamela Hoggard of Piggott, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Kristin Ashley Johnson and husband Mark of Scranton, Arkansas, Michael Vincent Hoggard and wife Ashley of Maumelle, Arkansas, Stephanie Sheryl Lowe and husband Jerrod of Piggott, Arkansas, and Kalyn Paul Hoggard and wife Mickelene of Boca Raton, Florida; five great-grandchildren: Mason Daniel Lowe, Matalyn Ashley Johnson, Caden James Hoggard, Mia Gracelyn Lowe, and Paul Brooks Johnson; brother, Calvin Hoggard and wife Letha of Arlington, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Virginia "Kitty" Hoggard of Hernando, Mississippi; and brother-in-law, Ralph Goundry of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; seven nieces and nephews: Diane Scalfaro, Mark Hoggard, Pam Cook, Wayne Hoggard, Susan Wamble, Wes Hoggard, and Steve Hoggard; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held at the graveside. Pallbearers are Jerrod Lowe, Mark Johnson, Kalyn Hoggard, Michael Hoggard, Stephanie Lowe, and Kristin Johnson. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation begins at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
