Jo Ann Olmstead

We have received word of the passing of Jo Ann G. Olmstead, age 85 of Heber Springs, Arkansas. She was born on August 7, 1933, in Bayou Meto, Arkansas and passed away on January 16, 2019, in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Mamie Wegert Ax.

Jo Ann or “Nana” as she was lovingly referred to by her family was a kind loving person who devoted her life to taking care of her family. While attending school in Heber Springs, she met Tom Olmstead and they were married August 27, 1950. Jo Ann joined Tom in the family business and was also very active in the community. She was a member of the Heber Springs Chamber of Commerce, led the local Boy Scout Chapter, taught Sunday school and was a member of many other committees in the First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas D. Olmstead and her brothers and sisters Ruby Norman, Ed Ax, Mildred Aldridge, Violet Ray, Archie Ax, and Shirley Bailey.

She is survived by her children Thomas Russell Olmstead, Ralph Waren Olmstead and his wife Tracey and Dwight Olmstead and his wife Lisa, her sister Sherrel Heffner, her grandchildren Waren Thomas Olmstead, Sarah Grace Olmstead, Ryan Olmstead and his wife Shanda, Alesha Presley and her husband Jason and Alexis Cranford and her husband Preston and her great-grandchildren. Mrs. Olmstead is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation was held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2019, and funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Olmstead Funeral Home with Dr. J.R. DeBusk officiating. Pallbearers will be Waren Thomas Olmstead, Cliff Childers, Kaven Cathey, Bryan Cathey, Jason Cathey, Greg Hutto, and Cecil King. Interment followed in Woodland Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the people at Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Dr. Jan Sharp and staff, Dr. Lee Vaughan and staff, C.A.R.T.I. , Southridge Nursing & Rehab, Arkansas Hospice, and the many others that have done so much to help.
